Note: At Ancytree you can not do genealogical research, but only import your data from a genealogy program, such as MyHeritage, Ancestry, Geni and FamilySearch.
Start creating your tree
Once your GEDCOM file has been uploaded, you can start creating your tree. Go to "Create my tree" and select Gedcom file, start person, generations and size. To create a family tree, you need to choose the person that the tree should be based on, and that person then becomes the starting point for your family tree. Decide which facts and information should be visible, everything from birth, marriage and death. Choose from several backgrounds or upload your own photos. Select generations and which facts should be displayed. There are no limits - create your very own family tree!

GEDCOM is a data standard for genealogy, this standard is used by most family research systems today, which allows you to easily export your own family data to a GEDCOM file, our system is very much based on the data contained in a GEDCOM file, with family relations and family relationships and then becomes an important piece of the puzzle in the Ancytree system.

With individual, the tree starts with one person and his/her parents, it is possible to show wife/husband and children. If you choose family, the tree starts with two persons, as husband and wife, with their own parents, it is possible to show their children as well.
Choosing the starting person means choosing the person on whom the tree will be based. The person you choose becomes the starting point for your family tree.
We have different sizes that you can choose from, depending on how big the tree should be and how many generations you want to see.
Today you can choose between:
AO (841 x 1188 mm, max 10 generations)

We have an additional service to help you create your own high-resolution background. Read more about our additional services here.
To consider: If you have a specific image you would like to use as a background on your family tree, please note that if you choose to use a low-resolution image to convert to high-resolution format, there is a risk that the original quality of the image will be retained, meaning that the image may be blurred, fuzzy and of poor quality. We therefore recommend that you use a high quality image for optimal results.
You can easily upload your images to your image gallery, please note that the background images need to be in a high resolution format and with the right dimensions depending on the chosen paper size.
Go to the "Background" tab
Then click on "My gallery"
Click on Upload and Upload image
Find the image on your computer and click open
To upload individual profile pictures, you need to go to the individual you want to change the profile picture of. Then click on the editing pen next to the profile picture and click on "Upload picture". Find the image you want to upload on your computer and click open.

Absolutely, click on the tab called "Preview" to get a preview of what your poster will look like.
Family trees are created with different amounts of information, and sometimes the text in the nodes can be extensive. If you notice that nodes overlap, this may be due to the available space on the family tree. It is the user's responsibility to check the amount of text in each node and adjust the information to ensure it fits within the space of the node. By being aware of the amount of text, you can adapt the layout and avoid overlapping nodes on your unique family tree.
GEDCOM is a common file format for family tree files, a computer standard that allows the uploading of data related to genealogy from one computer program to another computer program. The word is an abbreviation of the English term GEnealogical Data COMmunication. The format was developed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The format has become a de facto standard and is now supported by virtually all genealogical software.
Most genealogical programs recognize this format, allowing you to easily transfer your family tree to a genealogical program of your choice. To start creating your family tree with us at Ancytree, you need to have created a GEDCOM file with any of the genealogical programs available today, such as MyHeritage, Ancestry, Geni and FamilySearch. With us, you can't do genealogical research or create your GEDCOM file, but only import from a genealogical program.
